Note to parents from Teresa Tracy Rose

Welcome to Sheridan Swim Club’s swim lesson program. I am excited to work with you and your little ones. This is our first summer of starting club lessons.

I would appreciate any feedback you have on the sign-on process through signup.com. Things you liked and things you did not like. You can text me at 217-617-7134 with those things, as well as your child’s name and the time of their lessons. I have several students; it makes it easier for me to know who I am talking to. I want to make this program one of the best in the tri-states. Anything you have to say is taken as a learning experience for me, so do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you again for trusting me with your little ones. I am excited for a fun learning experience for all of us.

Sincerely,

Teresa Tracy Rose, Swim Instructor, sheridanswiminstructor@gmail.com

Swimming Ability Levels

Sea Horse (Beginner 1)

  • Focus: Water adjustment and basic safety.
  • Skills: This level is designed for young or new swimmers (typically ages 3–4) who are becoming comfortable with water on their face. Children learn to blow bubbles, submerge their heads, and perform supported front and back floats.

Clown Fish (Beginner 2)

  • Focus: Fundamental aquatic skills and independent movement.
  • Skills: Swimmers begin to transition from supported to unsupported floating. They practice “gliding” on their front and back and are introduced to basic flutter kicking and arm reaching movements (propulsion).

Sea Turtle (Intermediate 1)

  • Focus: Stroke development and rhythmic breathing.
  • Skills: Swimmers learn to coordinate their arms and legs for the front crawl and backstroke over short distances. This level introduces side-breathing techniques and increases the student’s endurance in the water.

Dolphin (Intermediate 2)

  • Focus: Stroke refinement and introduction to new styles.
  • Skills: Students work on perfecting the front crawl and backstroke with proper form. They are introduced to the breaststroke kick and dolphin kick, preparing them for more advanced competitive strokes.

Great White (Advanced)

  • Focus: Stroke proficiency and endurance.
  • Skills: Swimmers at this level work on mastery of all four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Lessons often include flip turns, treading water for extended periods, and preparing for swim team or fitness swimming.
